. . The 2009-2010 winter was unusually cold and wet. It snowed twice: - January 8th : 30 cm - March 7th : 20 cm The rains have been consistent since the beginning of January and helped recharge the groundwater. It rains less often since the beginnig of May. Rains becomes rare in June. The months of July and August were particularly hot and windy with very little precipitation. Fortunately, the soil, which was waterlogged during the winter and early spring, allowed the vines to go through the long and dry periods we have had later without too many problems. The bud was slightly delayed by the cold spring. At the time of flowering, it was estimated that the vine was delayed 10 days compared to 2009 (who was a very early year). The flowering was marked by a strong cold mistral wind that lasted several days. Fertilization of the flowers has not gone well, and we have seen a significant "coulure" in the weeks that followed. This "coulure" mainly concerned the Grenache grape, which is sensitive (as well the Grenache Blanc and the Grenache Noir). Fortunately, the number of clusters was important and that has compensated partially the "coulure". For the other grape varieties, the crop was almost normal. From the end of June, after checking the crop, we have done some green harvest to regulate perfectly the crop. The real harvests began on September 1st in Domaine de
l'Amauve, with
10 days late compared to 2009.
2010 seems to be a reference of high quality for our
wines. |
