In 1930, my grandfather Adrien decided to build a cabanon des vignes in the Granges Neuves district. The goals of this construction were multiple: - To build a shelter close to the different plots of the property to shelter men and horses in case of storm and to come for lunch in the middle of the day. - This construction was planned to be transformed into home for his retirement which he wanted to spend close to the farm of Granges Neuves which was the origin of our family in Séguret. This second idea never came true and the cabanon des vignes remained as it was for 90 years. The cabanon des vignes took a few years to be built. A mason from the village helped my Grandfather. The construction of the ground floor being in concrete (which was done a lot at that time), my Grandfather pushed wheelbarrows of concrete on a wooden ramp to the first floor to empty them into the walls and onto the slab. The upstairs, on the other hand, had been built in red bricks. This cabanon des vignes, is located between two vines of the Domaine de l'Amauve (one of Syrah, and the other of Grenache Noir). It is the perfect place to receive visitors on bad weather days (on good weather days, the reception is outside at the estate's farm). This is why Christian and Monique decided to restore it. You will find below some pictures of the steps of the rehabilitation of the cabanon. |
